Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former coach Cervara.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after March of 2023.
Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
